UPDATE 2/9/2026: Please see the document below from National Judge Advocate of The American Legion, Mark C. Seavey regarding DD214’s. The attached document is effective immediately.

The Post Adjutant or Legion Post Officer – if the Legion Post Adjutant is not available – must verify a member’s eligibility by reviewing the DD214 and then promptly return the documents to the individual. No copies or electronic records are to be made and-or kept. The only time the Unit Secretary can verify the DD214 is if it is a female veteran joining the ALA under her own service.

This information has been emailed out to ALL current County Presidents, Unit Presidents and Unit Membership Chairman on ALAMIS.

For God and Country,
Barbara A. Corker
Secretary/Director of Operations

For the 2025-2026 Dues Year

Member Dues are based on a member’s age on January 1st of the Membership year.

If a junior is born in 2008, they will be a junior member for the 2025 dues year. On their 18th birthday, they will automatically become a senior member.

Anyone who was born in 2007 and will be 18 years old by 11:59pm on December 31, 2025; is a senior for the 2026 year. National has already updated those members to senior status before the April printing of the 2026 membership cards and rosters. It should say “MAM” instead of “MYM” under Member type.

Example- A member that is 17 on January 1, 2026 will be billed as a junior member for 2026.

ONLY use the transmittals with the 2025-2026 at the top. This will reduce the confusion.

2025-2026 WORD TRANSMITTAL

**Transmittals cannot be larger than 50-55 senior members. We can only process 55 senior dues for 2024 dues year at a time. This is due to the increase in dues. The Department cannot exceed $1,000 in a single transaction. If there are 55 seniors it’s a total of $990.00 (55 x $18).

2026 dues are available to be paid- renewals can be sent in around Mid-July. ALL new members and rejoins for 2026 must be held until September 1, 2025. If sent in before that date, they will be processed for 2025, and automatically owe 2026.

Make sure you are sending in the correct Dept. and Natl. per capita:

  • Senior dues
    • 2026, 2025 and 2024 dues: $28 per senior member.
    • 2023 and ALL prior years dues: $20 per senior member.
  • Junior dues
    • ALL dues: $6.25 per junior member.

MEMBERSHIP——————————————————————————————————

This Committee is the “grassroots” of our organization. Without a solid membership; we cannot carry out the many programs that comprise the American Legion Auxiliary. We need to encourage those eligible to join our organization. Membership drives using Post rosters can be held. We need to retain those on our rolls and actively seek out new members.

Key Program Statements:

  • The role of the national Membership Committee is to encourage and support the nationwide effort to attract and retain a diverse, active membership and establish new units to ensure the future of the American Legion Auxiliary.
  • By honoring our veterans and military through meaningful service, the American Legion Auxiliary will grow our membership. We must let members know that they are the Auxiliary’s most valuable asset.
  • There are several things members can do to promote membership for the American Legion Auxiliary including enhancing the member experience, reaching out to former and expired members, attracting new members and understanding and respecting member rights.
  • Consult our Key Resources for this year’s membership awards.

ALA RECRUITING FLYER FOR UNITS!
Does your ALA unit host a regular carry-out dinner night, or does your post home provide food for carry-out?

Consider adding these flyers to the takeout boxes! They’re convenient, fillable PDFs with an efficient 3-up design for easy printing on a home computer. You can also take them to your local print shop so you’ll always have extras on hand.

Start today:
1) Go to the My Auxiliary member portal at https://member.legion-aux.org/member/resources/flyer-templates.
2) Download the PDF.
3) Click onto the fillable field at the bottom of the flyer to type in a unit contact person’s name, phone, or email address.
4) Print on color paper (we suggest blue), and cut in thirds.
5) Take a flyer to each takeout box.

Units are encouraged to supplement the national renewal notices with unit generated renewal notices and personal phone calls.
