2026 Walk-A-Thon Flyer
Kickoff April 1, 2026
Goal: $70,000
Last year, through your efforts and the generosity of so many, our 2025 Walkathon raised $66,481. All money raised was donated to the support of our Veterans throughout New York State.
This year, donations will go to our 13 VA Hospitals and 5 Nursing Facilities as well as our Department President’s Project The Military Women’s Memorial & Empire Girls State.
Let us all work together this year to make our Walkathon the most successful ever!!!
How you can help:
-Organize a Walk
-Sponsor a Breakfast, Dinner, BBQ, Carnival
-Have a Raffle
-Write a donation letter, then mail or email, to your family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, Unit, Squadron and Legion Members.

SAL: NYS VA Medical Center Homeless Programs & NYS Veterans Homes.

Homeless Veterans are sometimes found living in wooded areas, in cars, under bridges. Some locations, such as abandoned buildings, can pose physical dangers for outreach staff and volunteers. Assisting homeless veterans to find suitable, permanent housing and the support services necessary to help them remain self-sufficient is a number one priority of the VA.

There are 5 NYS Veteran Homes operated by the NYS Department of Health and 1 operated by the State University of New York. They are skilled Nursing Homes that provide quality care to all eligible veterans and their eligible dependents in need of skilled nursing care and rehabilitative services.

The Military Women’s Memorial & Empire Girls State
- The Military Women’s Memorial is an amazing museum where female veterans can tell their story of the service they gave to this country. We need to recognize these women and get their story told. The Military Women’s Memorial is a museum right next Arlington Cemetery, and it is free to go in and visit. There are movies and Statutes of Women Serving our country and what they did while in service. All proceeds will go to helping to build programs about women that have served and are serving in the military and what they are doing for our country.
- ALA Empire Girls State is an educational program of the American Legion Auxiliary, developed from the concept that youth should be offered a better perspective of the practical operation of government; that the individual is an integral part and commensurably responsible for the character and success of her government. It is an activity of high educational value, born of a need for youth training in Americanism and practical good citizenship. The entire program is a non-partisan, apolitical attempt to teach and instill pride in our youth of America a love of God and Country.
No donation is too small and, keep in mind, those individual donations add up to more support for our Veterans. All donations should be submitted no later than July 1, 2026

If there is a Walk-A-Thon in your Post, County or District we encourage you to join. If not, start one. Use the Poster and Boots to cutout to promote the cause and recognize your supporters. Attendance at an actual walk is not mandatory. Check with your Walk organizers for forms and instructions, the Auxiliary (www.deptny.org) or (www.sonsdny.org) websites.
“WALK-A-THON BOOTS”
Enclosed in this package is a page with two pictures of our
“Walkathon Boots.”
This is intended to be cut into two pictures to be used as a
fundraiser for the Walk-A-Thon.
Feel free to make as many copies as you need.
The purpose of these Boots, after permission has been given
from your Post, is to sell a pair a boots for $5.00 (suggested donation).
The price is completely up to you.
A donor can contribute any amount that they choose.
Write the donors name on the picture, and again with the
permission of your Post, display them in the social area.
This has proven very successful in the past.
