UD&R

2007-2008
Unit Development & Revitalization

This year, UD&R has been combined under the Membership Committee on the National level. Our UD&R Team will consist of the same team members for each District. Barbara Wong (1st District) and Janet Mahoney (9th District) have been appointed to fill the two remaining vacancies and will be trained this fall giving us a full slate of representatives to assist with development and revitalization across NYS. Always remember to encourage involvement of ALL members and acceptance of new ideas.

Please be sure to avail your Unit of the services of your representative. Any member of the Team can be contacted through Department office. If your Unit is having difficulties, I encourage you to take advantage of our expertise in dealing with problem situations and internal conflicts.

Members of the UD&R Team can assist in finding ways to make your members more active including how to get them active. They can assist with conflict resolution as well as developing Unit agendas to offer new and exciting programs for your members. They can provide sample letters for Legion Posts to solicit members as well as sample letters asking former members to rejoin the Unit. They have samples of member survey forms that can be distributed to determine what your members are thinking and feeling about the current status of your Unit. These surveys will assist in determining the interests of your members and will give insight as to the programs your members would like to see initiated. There is NO good reason to give up a charter.

REMEMBER-You don't have to wait until your Unit is about to fold and give up it's charter to ask for assistance. ASK when a problem occurs and you don't know how to handle it. Be on the lookout for possible pitfalls that will continue to deteriorate your Unit's progress. We are just a phone call away and sometimes one simple little call will give you new ideas to move forward on an issue. WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU.

REPORTING
One of the most important responsibilities of
Unit Committee Chairmen

i
s to report the activities and work
on their programs.
This comprises all of the work
done by the more than 53,000 members in our Department.
The
Unit Chairmen report to the County Chairmen who in turn
report to the Department Chairmen
.

The Department's report to National
is the factor that makes the outstanding reports at the National Convention.
Chairmen are encouraged to
 enter all contests.
