RESOLUTIONS

The following is some information on understanding and preparing resolutions. Most of the following are guidelines. This information along with what can be found in your Manual of ceremonies should provide you with enough information to properly prepare and submit quality resolutions that will be needed to guide this organization in the future.

Resolutions submitted for consideration on the Unit or County levels must reflect the goals and purposes of the Auxiliary.

Resolutions must be germane to the Auxiliary's existing programs, policies and principles.

During the evolution of a resolution it is scrutinized for content and form, there-fore any document not relevant to Auxiliary concerns, is ill prepared.

Procedures may vary from Unit to Unit, but whether a resolution is proposed by an individual member or a committee, the Unit President must ensure the final document reflects the collective will of the Unit.

Resolutions addressing multiple subjects generally are rejected or amended to delete language not related to the main topic.

The basic format for resolutions consists of two parts, - a preamble and a resolving section.

The preamble, or clauses that begin with the word "Whereas", establish the reasons for the resolution. The resolving section explains what action will take. There shouldn't be too much verbiage in the preamble clauses. Don't try to cover too much in one resolution.

It is suggested that the resolving clause be written before the preamble because the resolving section can often provide guidance for preparing the preamble.

Don't limit the scope of the resolution to local events or concerns.

Possible actions include approval, rejection, approval with amendment, consolidation with other resolutions, or simply noted as received and recorded.

I hope this information is useful to you. If there are any questions please do not hesitate to contact me or Department Headquarters.

This comprises all of the work
done by the more than 53,000 members in our Department.
The
Unit Chairmen report to the County Chairmen who in turn
