Past Presidents Parley

 Important New Information

National ALA  - "Woman of the Year"

by Karyn Porempski, Nec. Aug 14, 2011

___________________________

Welcome and congratulations to all the newly elected chairman of this committee,
and to all new members now able to join.

The Past President’s Parley function is to honor and recognize our female veterans by using our past presidents knowledge, mentoring skills and willingness to take responsibility to teach our leaders of tomorrow.

We invite all past presidents to renew their dues and all new past presidents to join forces and become “ partners across New York”! Our committee raises money by having our “past presidents” pay $3 dues using a Transmittal Form, and forwarded to your county treasurer, which support the following purposes:

1. Provide $150 to each of the VAVS Representatives and Field Service Representatives for the needs of our Women Veterans. Needs include, but are not limited to, taking them for medicals needs, providing them with special care items, shopping trips, helping with the writing or answering of their mail needs. But most importantly sharing time with these most deserving veterans.

2. Offering the outgoing Honorary Department Junior President a scholarship in the amount of $1000.00 to aid in post secondary education. She must be a member in good standing at the time the scholarship is awarded.

3. The Past President’s Parley also offers (3) Scholarships in the medical field. All instructions and entry forms are included in the “ EDUCATION” section of this Plan of Action.

Ladies, provided in this section is a new and faster way to join our fast growing parley. A transmittal form is included for each unit to fill out and use. This form can be utilized on the unit, county or district levels. Please take a few moments at your first meeting of the year and complete this form and mail to your prospective treasurer. Your treasurer in turn is requested to mail me a copy of the transmittal form and I will send back your 2011-2012 Past President’s card. For a $3 dues charge you can change the life of a deserving veteran and enhance the opportunity of a scholarship to a youth of tomorrow. WE NEED NOW to increase our membership to accommodate the returning large numbers of new veterans and the rising costs of education.

At convention, the Past President Parley is host to a breakfast to update all of its members on the business of the committee pertaining to the three objectives listed above , our financial status and any new business and needs that our members need to discuss and vote on. Once you become a member your input is vital to the business of the committee. On July 13,2011 the breakfast was held at the Holiday Inn and 231 members were present. The minutes of that meeting are paraphrased next .

Minutes
Due to the financial report, the Past Present Parley will continue to aid our women veterans with the request from the VAVS Representative at $150 per request. The need to dispense with the three scholarships for this administration. We will honor the scholarship for the outgoing Honorary Jr. Dept. President. Committee voted to raise dues to $3. We are in hopes of being fiscally sound to reinstate all scholarships next meeting.

REPORTING
One of the most important responsibilities of
Unit Committee Chairmen

is to report the activities and work
on their programs.
This comprises all of the work done by the more than 50,000 members in our Department.
The
Unit Chairmen report to the County Chairmen, who in turn
report to the Department Chairmen
.

The Department's report to National is the factor that makes the
outstanding reports at the National Convention.

Chairmen are encouraged to enter all contests.
