Past Presidents Parley
The purpose of the Past President’s Parley Committee work is to honor and recognize female veterans and to utilize past Auxiliary leaders as ambassadors for the Auxiliary to ensure strong leadership at all levels of the organization. Congratulations to each newly appointed Past President’s Parley Chairmen. Your responsibility is to be sure that mentoring and sharing of information is forthcoming from all Past Presidents to the leaders of tomorrow. All Past Unit Presidents are invited to become a member of the Parley with $2.00 dues forwarded to the County Treasurer. The Past President’s Parley Committee offers three (3) $1,500 scholarships to those pursuing an education in the medical field. (All instructions and entry form are included in the “Education” section of this plan of action.) We also offer the outgoing Honorary Junior President a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to aid in her post secondary education providing she remains a member in good standing at the time the scholarship is awarded. There is also $150 available to VAVS Reps and Field Service Reps for the needs of our Women Veterans. Needs include, but are not limited to, taking them to medical appointments, shopping, writing letters, answering mail, reading to them or just sharing time with them. The National organization has set three objectives for work accomplished under this committee. 1) Reconnect by organizing Parleys to meet informally several times during the year to discuss the organization’s growth, strengths, weaknesses, etc. in order to empower current leaders. 2) Energize by providing scholarships; contributing to monetary value of scholarships; and pay tribute to an outstanding “Unit Member of the Year”. 3) Reach out by honoring female warriors, past and present. There are numerous ways in which to accomplish the goals stated above. Objective 1 1) Encourage all Past Presidents to share their knowledge of our organization and learning experiences with all our members. 2) Support all Unit activities and programs in order to urge our membership to become involved and thus to ensure a thriving and strong organization. 3) Provide continual mentorship for leaders who display any kind of growth potential. Objective 21) Provide scholarship applications for any interested/qualified candidates. 2) Encourage members to make monetary donations to increase scholarship awards. 3) Encourage applicants to apply for scholarships to alleviate the shortage of medical personnel. 4) Provide financial aid information to medical students. 5) Help Units to select and honor an Outstanding “Unit Member of the Year” (click here for nomination form) Objective 31) Assist hospitalized female veterans and active duty service women in our VA facilities—-especially on February 14, National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Day. 2) Nominate a local active duty service woman, from any of the 5 branches of service.
