Nancy Kurk
Robson-Savage Unit #546 and Yates County are proud to endorse Nancy G. Kurk
for the office of Third Vice President of the Department of New York, She and Tom
have been married for twenty-six years. They are members of the First
Baptist Church in Geneva. They have two daughters, and four grandchildren,
all of whom are members of the American Legion family and eligible through
Nancy’s late father Gerald (Jack) Heath, a WWII Air Force Veteran.
Nancy’s husband Tom, Past Detachment Commander, Sons of the American Legion, served during 2005-2006. Nancy is recognized in the 2007 Cambridge Who’s Who among Executive and Professional Women. Nancy is an Independent Living Skills Trainer and Supervisor with Sibley Nursing Personnel, Inc. She assists individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injury regain their independence at home and in the community. Nancy has been a member of the Robson-Savage Unit #546 for thirty-one years. Nancy was elected Unit President in 1990, and has served as Vice President and Treasurer, as well as chairing most committees. Under her Chairmanship the Unit has won Department awards in Americanism, Education, and National Security. She has represented the Unit as a delegate to many Department Conventions. Nancy is a Field Service and Veterans Affairs Medical Center volunteer. Nancy represented her Unit, while serving as Commander for the “Wreath’s Across America Project”, at the Bath National Cemetery in December 2006. In 1992, Nancy was first elected Yates County President, an office she has held three times. Nancy has served most committees and held several offices. Under her leadership Yates County has achieved recognition for 100% Membership and 100% reporting. Yates County won the Wilma Laraway Award for Field Service when Nancy was Chairman in 2000. Nancy is currently serving the County as Secretary, Leadership and Constitution & Bylaws Chairman. On the District level, Nancy chaired the District Leadership Workshop held December 9th, 2006. She served as District Secretary for three administrations and one term as Acting District Chaplain. She also chaired the Seventh District Empire Girls State Orientation in 1995. Serving twice as Field Day Chairman at Canandaigua VAMC was one of Nancy’s personal best achievements. She has served two administrations representing the District on the Constitution & By-laws, and Resolutions committees at the Department Convention. Nancy was elected District Vice President in 2000-2001 and District President in 2001-2002. Her theme for the District was “Magnetize the American Legion Family.” She developed awards for Units, Posts and Squadrons for their efforts working together promoting the American Legion Family. Fifteen awards were presented at the joint District Convention and Spring Conference held June 2002, in Penn Yan. On the Department level, Nancy is currently serving as Legislative Chairman. She was privileged to attend the 2007 Awareness Assembly in Washington D.C. Nancy completed the National Leadership Workshop series while in Washington D.C. and received a National Certificate of Achievement. Nancy has served as a VAVS Deputy and Poppy Supervisor at the Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Medical Center. While she was Poppy Supervisor, she was instrumental in increasing production from 22,000 to over 75,000 Poppies. Nancy has been active in the Empire Girls State program, serving as a housemother for five years and as Vice Chairman of the program in 2003, where she also served as Nationalist Party Advisor. As District President, she chaired the Americanism Program and attended Empire Girls State in 2002. Nancy has attended many District, Department and National Workshops and became a Certified Leadership Instructor in December 2001. She has presented at Midwinter Conference and at several leadership workshops within her District. Since her training in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2003, Nancy has served on the Unit Development and Revitalization Team. At the Midwinter Conference in 2006, Nancy was most honored to serve as Luncheon Chairman for National President, Carol Van Kirk. During the 2006 American Legion Auxiliary Convention held in Rochester, she served as Executive Dinner Chairman and Vice Chairman of Distinguished Guests. She just completed an excellent program on Legislation for the 2006-2007 administration. Nancy has represented the Department at four National Conventions as a delegate. Nancy’s leadership in and enthusiasm for the programs of the American Legion Auxiliary continue to inspire our members. We are confident that she will do the same for members throughout this great Department of New York.
