Community Service

Supporting
our community to make it safe and healthy is part of our Auxiliary programs.
Being a team player at the local level gives us the opportunity to make many
good things happen. Our friends, neighbors and the elderly can benefit from
our involvement Do you volunteer for service groups in your community? Ask
your Unit members, young and old, to volunteer just a couple of hours a week
for the good of others. See how good it feels to volunteer.
Established
areas of Community Service
 |
HOMETOWN - We can volunteer to help with community cleanup
projects. Ask your Unit to adopt a section of your community; and be
responsible for keeping it clean. Ask your Unit members to assist by
providing them with trash bags, gloves, shovels and rakes to go out and
clean up wherever it is needed.
|
 |
SENIOR CITIZENS -Take time out to visit our senior members
in the community. Just a couple of seconds a day can make a senior citizen
feel good by calling and checking to see if you can help them with any
errands, or spend time playing a card game with them, or chatting for a
few minutes to let them know someone cares. Maybe you could even help with
letter writing or phone calls.
|
 |
HEALTH - Volunteer for blood drives or fund drives for
various disease prevention campaigns. Assist in nursing homes or
hospitals, distribute information on drug abuse, alcohol abuse and
child/spousal abuse.
|
 |
SERVICE TO THE HANDICAPPED - Help is always needed
during the Annual Special Olympic Games by donating food, money, or your
time.
|
 |
HOMELESS SHELTERS - Food, clothing, monetary
contributions and helping hands are always needed. .
|
 |
SAFETY- Enlist the local police and
fire departments to assist with a Safety Program at your local schools.
They can also help with traffic safety, car seat safety, home safety and
fire safety.
|
 |
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH - Start planning Now! October 27,
2007 - Make a Difference

REPORTING
One of the most important responsibilities
of
Unit Committee Chairmen
is to report the activities and work
on their programs.
This comprises all of the work
done by the more than 53,000 members in our Department.
The Unit Chairmen report to the
County Chairmen who in turn
report to the Department Chairmen.
The Department's report to National
is the factor that makes the outstanding reports at the National
Convention.
Chairmen are encouraged to
enter all contests. |
