has completed her
Earthly service  on Thursday, April 22, 2010

  "Another angel among us."

Friends may call at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home

Monday April 26, 2010 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM
Auxiliary members of Clute Phillips American Legion Post #938
will meet at the funeral home Monday at 7PM.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 27th at 10:00 AM
St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Emily Frank officiating.
Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery.

Memorials to St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church would be appreciated by the Sheldon family.

Biography

Evelyn M. Sheldon of Middleport passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Sheldon was born in Tonawanda, NY on June 15, 1917 daughter of the late William and Freda (Stierz) Studier. She was a graduate of Tonawanda High School and Buffalo State College. She has lived in Middleport since l938. She and her husband Warren "Tom" Sheldon were married in Kenmore, NY on June 29, 1946.

She was the first Art and Mechanical Drawing teacher at Middleport High School which included surrounding country schools. She later obtained her Master's Degree and Permanent Teaching Certificate. She was active with several other school activities and was selected "Teacher of the Year", an honor she enjoyed. She retired from the Royalton Hartland School System in l980.

Mrs. Sheldon enjoyed her family and was an Auxiliary member of Clute Phillips American Legion Post #938, serving in many offices. She had been President of the Niagara County and 8th District American Legion Auxiliary and was President of the NYS American Legion.

In her year as President she raised money for a film production about healthcare of children's eyes called the "Eyes Have It". It became available to the New York Public Schools for viewing.

She later became the American Legion Auxiliary National Chaplain. One of the duties was to prepare monthly prayers for the National Legion Auxiliary magazine. At the national convention in Salt Lake City she gave one of the opening prayers at the Mormon Tabernacle Church.

She was a member of the Color Guard of Bergholtz German Band. She traveled to parts of the United States and a tour of Germany made this a memorable time of her retirement. She played golf at various times at the Ladies'Leagues at Myrtle Beach National ,Shelridge Country Club and Niagara Orleans Country Club. She and her husband were 25 year "snow birds" members at Surfside Lutheran Church at Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina. She was a 60 year member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medina and also its Bible Group.

She is survived by her husband Warren "Tom" Sheldon, two daughters Linda Sheldon of Woodstock, NY and Marie (Stephen) Socha of Lockport, NY; two sisters-in-law Helen Sheldon of Middleport and Bernice Sheldon of Medina; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Biography

Marian S. Love, age 82 of Ransomville NY, died Monday March 15, 2010 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness.
Marian was born May 7, 1927 in Lockport, NY, the daughter of the late Lloyd S. and Florence (Miller) Smith. A lifelong resident of Ransomville, she was a 1944 graduate of Wilson High School and a graduate of State Teachers College University of NY State at Brockport with a B.A. in Education. Marian taught elementary school for 25 years, retiring as a 1st grade teacher from the William H. Stevenson Elementary School in Ransomville in 1982. On December 27, 1948 she married Ralph A. Love who predeceased her on September 15, 1997.

She was a member of the Ransomville Baptist Church and the Women's Fellowship of the Church. Marian was a 61 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary O. Leo Curtiss Post #830 and its' 40 & 8; Past President of Niagara County American Legion Auxiliary and Past Chaplain of the Department of New York, American Legion Auxiliary under the leadership of Past Department President, Anna Ballard; a member of the Order of Eastern Star #374 Ransomville Chapter; the Ransomville Rural Retirees; the Eastern Niagara County Retired Teachers; the NY State United Teachers and National Teachers Associations; and a member of the St. Francis Guild of Mt. St. Mary's Hospital where she had volunteered for 24 years.

Marian loved spending time with her family and friends, and traveling. She had been to all 50 States, most of them with her late husband in their motor home.

She is survived by her children, Linda L. (Joseph) Connell of Niagara Falls, NY, Robert (Tina) Love of Seminole, FL, Carol (Michael) Conroy of Niagara Falls, NY, and William (Colleen) Love of Ransomville; six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, one great grandchild, six step great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. The American Legion Auxiliary Service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 PM followed by the Eastern Star Service at 7:30 PM. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 19, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Gorrow officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd. Town of Cambria. Memorials may be made to the Ransomville Baptist Church, PO Box 96, Ransomville, NY 14131.

It is with profound sadness that I report the death of Anna (Ann) Duguette

PLATTSBURGH — Anna Duquette, 85, passed away peacefully March 18, 2010, at CVPH in Plattsburgh with her family at her side. She was born in Plattsburgh Nov. 8, 1924, the daughter of James and Julia Harrison; sister of James, Ann and Marion Harrison.
She was predeceased in 2001 by her husband, Leonard Duquette Sr.

Mother of Linda Musson and her husband Richard of Tonawanda, N.Y., Leonard Duquette Jr and wife Deborah of Plattsburgh, Stephanie Bushey of West Chazy; sister in-law of Clark Duquette and wife Meg of Peru, sister-in-law of Lucille and Frank Rabideau and sister-in-law of Joan Theroux; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Anna was very dedicated to her family, the American Legion and Auxiliary and her country; she was a 64-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served on all the committees in the unit and the county. She was the unit president several times as well as 4th District president. She served on the 1776 Unit, county and state committees from 1971 to 1976. She was the designer of the "76" NY State patch and also served on the pin committee. For a number of years, she volunteered in Albany at the VA Hospital in the "Gift Shop program" for the veterans. She was a member of the 8-40, Red Hatters and Ladies Club. She bowled for 48 years with American Legion Post 20. She loved roller and ice skating as a youngster. She worked at Clare and Carl's on the Lake Shore Road for 18 years, American Legion Post 20 for four-and-a-half years and Michigan Plus for 20 years.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, March 27, at the Old Base Chapel at 10 a.m.
A reception will follow at noon at the American Legion Post 20 on Quarry Road, Plattsburgh.

The family requests that all donations be made to the American Legion Auxiliary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh.

Elizabeth Bucher (Betty) has been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 45 years at
Rusy-Bohm Unit 411 in Suffolk County, 10th District.
 
During those years she has served as County President from 1982-1983
10th District President, 1997-1998 under the Leadership of Department President, Shirley Olinger
and again from 2000-2001 under the Leadership of Department President, Marie Cook
