Award Entries
REMEMBER: All award entries for both the
Department
Level and National Level are due to
the Department Chairman by:
May 01, 2012
Department Awards
Rules for Department entries:
- Entry must be typed,
double spaced, not to exceed 1000 words, unless otherwise noted under
award instructions.
- Entry must be in
narrative form and placed in a folder. Pictures, newspaper clippings
and other materials may be included.
- All entries must
include a cover sheet with the name of the award entered, name of the
Unit/County/District, name and address of the Unit/County Children & Youth
Chairman, name and address of the Unit/County President and the number of
members in the Unit/County.
- The number of words
should be noted in the lower right hand corner of the cover sheet.
- All award entries must be received by Department Chairman May 01, 2012
Mary Anne Casadei Award
An
award to the Unit and County that donates the greatest amount of money to a
program that serves children with special needs to include but not limited
to United Cerebral Palsy, Catholic Charities and programs for vision and
hearing impaired The Unit Treasurer or County Treasurer must certify the
amount donated to the Charity. The total donation is to one Charity.

Priscilla Imburgia Award
An award to the Junior Group
that has the most successful project bringing attention to and raising funds
for The Child Welfare Foundation. Junior Group to submit a narrative
describing the project and the results. Award is open to Unit, County or
District Groups. Narrative must include number of juniors participating.
Consideration will be given to number of juniors in group compared to
program success.
Violet Argila Plaque
To the Unit reporting the best year round program for children with
special needs. (Children with learning disabilities, behavioral problems,
speech, hearing and visually impaired mental retardation or physical
disabilities).
Kay Mazzie Award
To the Unit reporting the best year round Children & Youth program
with emphasis on activities as set forth annually by the American Legion.
Awarded to the Unit in two membership categories:

Category I 10-100
Members
-
Category II
101 Members and above.
Shirley Olinger Award
To the Unit, submitting the most outstanding report on
“Under Our Wings”, program.
“Under our Wings’, we need to reach out to the families around us who need a
little help throughout the year. Many Units adopt a family or families
and provide them with things on all special occasions and in between, if the
need arises.
Department County Award
To the County reporting the best year round Children & Youth program
with emphasis on activities as set forth annually by the American Legion.
Evelyn Sheldon Award
“Youth
Reaches Out” - Awarded to a youth group or an individual youth in
recognition of service to their community or fellow man. The recipient
does not have to be affiliated with the American Legion or the American
Legion Auxiliary. The important thing is that they are making life
better for someone in their community.
Rules
for “Youth Reaches Out” award.

Entry
must be typed; double spaced on 81/2 X 11 paper and shall not exceed 500
words.

Entry must be in narrative form, enclosed in a folder telling about “Out
Reach”, activities of a group or individual.

Entry must contain a
coversheet with the Unit name and Number and the name,
address and phone number of both the Unit President and the Unit Children
& Youth Chairman.
Note: The “Youth Reaches
Out”, award will be presented to the nominating Unit at the Department
Convention. The Unit will accept the responsibility for presenting the award
to the recipient at an appropriate time and place. The nominating Unit will
receive a certificate of appreciation.
National Awards
Rules for National
Award entries:

Entry must be in narrative form, not to exceed 1,000 words

Entry must be typed, double spaced

Word count in the lower right hand corner of cover sheet

May include pictures, news articles, press releases, etc

A cover sheet, including the name of the award entry, Department,
Unit name and name and contact information for the Unit Children & Youth
Chairman

All entries must be received by Department Chairman by
May 01, 2012
Youth Hero Award
– A National award for youth, under 18 years of age, who perform a
heroic act of physical valor.
Good
Deed Award – A national award for youth, under 18 years of
age, who do not meet the Youth Hero Award criteria but who are great
examples of community service.
Please use the
Youth Hero Award Nomination Form
for both Award entries.
Nominations for both the Youth Hero Award and Good deed Award are to be
completed at the Unit level and mailed to the Department Secretary, who
certifies and mails the application to National Headquarters.
Outstanding Promotion of Supporting Activities
–
Unit Award - A citation plaque
will be awarded to the Unit Children & Youth Chairman in each Division
for the most outstanding program promoting the Children & Youth program
activities. All entries must be mailed to Department Chairman by May
01, 2012.
“Honoring Their Service” Award – The children of military parents and of
activated Guard and Reservists are also “Serving” their country. We can
honor their service by providing support for these children. A plaque
citation will be awarded to a Unit in each Division with the best innovative
program supporting military children. All entries must be mailed to this
Department Chairman by May 01, 2012

you have done over the summer or since reporting May 10th, 2011
can be reported November 10th, 2011 for this Auxiliary year.
