American Legion  College
Class of 2010

Morrisville College (Madison County) June 11, 12, 13, 2010

The Department of New York will hold its seventh annual American Legion College June 11-13, 2010. The College will give legionnaires an opportunity to get a comprehensive course of study over a three-day period on many programs of The American Legion and help participants become a leader in the largest veterans’ organization in our country.

Only those who have a genuine interest in learning more about The American Legion and accepting the responsibilities of leadership should apply. The college will address many programs, and the issues facing our great organization. The importance and skills of leadership will be interwoven into the curriculum.

The College will be very structured with little time between classes. Students will work in teams to solve problems they may encounter back home in their own American Legion Post or county organization and have an opportunity to present their solutions to the entire college. Attendees will be required to be active participants in all classes in order to graduate. Legionnaires who have been active members for many years, and who have significant leadership experience, may apply; however, they should seriously consider the alternative of encouraging the application of younger Legionnaires who might profit more from their experience and lead to the success of our future missions.

Upon completion of this college, participants will not only have a better understanding of the programs, goals and mission of The American Legion, but will also have the confidence to become active, knowledgeable leaders in its future.

Please pay close attention to the following bullet notes to ensure that your application gets full consideration. The college will be limited in size to a maximum of 100 to facilitate the optimum learning experience. In the event that an applicant is not accepted this year, do not be discouraged! There will be another opportunity next year to attend.

Notes of importance;

ü      The application MUST be filled out (Printed or Typed) COMPLETELY to be considered.

ü      Only one person and check should be used per application.

ü      The April 1, 2010 application deadline will be strictly adhered to with no exceptions for late entries.

ü      Your check for $200.00 MUST accompany application.

ü      Bell Jar or other funds may be used to assist the legionnaire student.

ü      Payment covers two nights lodging in college dormitories, five meals and college materials.

ü      A maximum of 100 students will be selected for this year’s college.

ü      Spouses are discouraged from attending because housing will not allow rooming together.

ü      Students are expected to arrive on time and attend all classes in order to graduate.

ü      If an entry is not accepted for any reason, your check will be returned.

ü      Once accepted for the college on May 1, 2010, there will be NO REFUNDS for non-attendance; however, a substitute may be submitted for consideration.

A cover letter and application for the 2010 American Legion College in PDF format is listed below.  It is very important that the cover letter and the application be copied and distributed or send a link to all of your post members as soon as  possible to allow those interested to apply.

Unit Committee Chairmen

is to report the activities and work
on their programs.
This comprises all of the work done by the more than 50,000 members in our Department.
The
Unit Chairmen report to the County Chairmen, who in turn
report to the Department Chairmen
.

The Department's report to National is the factor that makes the
outstanding reports at the National Convention.

Chairmen are encouraged to enter all contests.
