PROGRAM SPECIFICS

Friday evening's session provides an overview of the American Legion Auxiliary, affiliated organizations, and current programs.  Expectations and goals for the weekend are presented.

On Saturday, students attend eight 45-minute sessions, covering Unit operations, meetings, Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation (VA&R), National Security, Children & Youth, Americanism, Empire Girls State, and Community Service.  Public relations and leadership training are incorporated throughout the curriculum.

Students are divided into work groups, with a mix in each group of experienced and newer members from diverse areas and Units.  Each workgroup is given a case study, outlining an issue which might arise in a typical Unit or County.  Throughout the weekend of the College, students collaborate to recommend resolution of each identified issue.

At Sunday morning's session, the workgroups report on their case studies, findings, and recommendations.  The College Action Team members address any open issues.  The weekend comes to a close with graduation ceremonies.

The mission of the College is to give members a basic understanding of the fundamentals of the American Legion Auxiliary through training, encouragement, and support.

The  ALA College Application Form 2011 must be completely filled out. Fill out the application using your keyboard.

The College Action Team, a core group which coordinates the program, consists of five members:

Cathleen MacInnes, Dean
Barbara Wong, Associate Dean

Carrie Davenport, Curriculum Coordinator
Lisa Harrington, Registrar
Kim Quick, Member at Large

Entries must be received by May 1, 2011.  The winner will be notified prior to the 2011 session.
